Il processo di upconversione nei vetri fluorurati drogati con elementi delle terre rare (Er, Nd, Pr, Tm e Yb) ha ricevuto una grande attenzione da parte dei ricercatori di tutto il mondo. L’interesse è dovuto principalmente alle applicazioni di questo sistema in dispositivi di amplificazione ottica e laser con numerose applicazioni tecnologiche. Il vetro fluorurato (ZBLAN) è un materiale amorfo che, grazie ai suoi vantaggi di basso rilassamento multifonico, stabilità in condizioni atmosferiche e bassa attenuazione ottica nella regione visibile dello spettro elettromagnetico, è un buon materiale ospite per gli ioni di terre rare. Tuttavia, in questo caso specifico, nonostante sia stato ampiamente studiato, il sistema ZBLAN:Er3+ presenta alcune incertezze riguardo alle sue proprietà ottiche. Una di queste è l’effettiva partecipazione della rete della matrice vetrosa al processo di upconversione. Questo lavoro presenta misure di upconversione e luminescenza alla temperatura di 2K con alcune definizioni.
