'YOURS, MISTER HOFTON' Kitty Wellington 'Yours, Mister Hofton' is a series of 32 unique and illustrated letters which humorously capture the nostalgia of a past age, an age of guineas and shillings, simplicity and innocence. Living in an unspecified year during the late 1950’s, Mister Hofton is an archetypal gentleman. This rotund and avuncular man is financially comfortable and now enjoys a leisurely retirement playing golf, smoking his pipe in 'the Hofton Hut', drinking only the finest of ales and walking with Wilberforce, his loyal and faithful Wafflehound. Some years previous to this he became Godfather to his best friend’s daughter, Kitty, and to avoid the misery of Golf Club Committee meetings, starts a series of letters which end up supporting and entertaining Kitty through a complete year at School. The Hofton Letters are rich in imagination and relate the fictional adventures of comical characters past and present. Through these letters Kitty meets Mister Hofton’s energetic doctor and eccentric lawyer and learns about his many bizarre family members who have climbed Everest, fought in the Crimea, sledged to the North Pole and become World Skating Champion. Kitty hears of the fictional adventures of the great detective Sherbert Homes, the 'nearly outlaw' Horace 'the Hood' Hofton and the ambitions of Hamish McSprute. As these beautifully illustrated letters unfold, we can all learn whether Wilberforce is the only Wafflehound in existence; why there is a Red Indian stalking the local golf course; why Uncle Sylvester Hofton did not tell anyone he had climbed Everest; and what exactly are the symptoms of Treacle Disease. Kitty has preserved these letters for all of us.Andrew Argyle and illustrator Simon Relf have restored them to their original splendour. Welcome to the imaginative world of Mister Hofton.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
