After being left by his original caregivers to now live an independent life on Mt. Hira within the small colony of the Teraganes, Sable easily adapts as a survivalist. However, upon the day of meeting a friendly girl with no wings, Sable feels something different and begins to ignore the teachings of the Sage to stay away from the savages of the forest with pointed ears and deadly traps. Lillie brings food and stories to share, providing a sense of friendship for the lone Teragane who attempts to reach out to his other colony members, but is often met with cold shoulders and disdain. Through further curiosities of his own secretive culture, Sable begins to push expectations of his rigid lifestyle, feeling the pangs of loneliness during winter isolation where he cannot visit Lillie outside of the forest. Yet, as Sable’s world is changing now that he is getting older, so is Lillie’s, and he doesn’t want to lose what beautiful friendship they have together. However, something is causing her to fade away, and Sable feels the need to make small changes in his life to preserve what little he already has. Will it be enough? He often wonders, fearful of being subject to the rules of the Sage that rips apart his one Teragane-friendship upon the mountain, leaving him to question whether or not he wants to live by the way of the Teragane, or abandon it all to seek out Lillie who seems to be fading into her own darkness deep within the cedar forest. Little does he know what waits for him when he finally takes that first step to fight for his young love-no matter the cost or depths he must enter.
