'Your Child's Development' is a succinct guide for parents which is practical and easy to follow. It provides busy parents with a ready reference to empower them to raise happy and confident children. The book discusses nurturing the development of your child's self-esteem and relationships with others. It provides a practical approach to child rearing from infancy through to adolescence, and is based on sound psychological and child development principles. This book is also beneficial to anyone working with children such as teachers, therapists and carers. It aims to enhance positive communication with children and adolescents to foster healthy relationships in the short and long term. Practical suggestions are given for managing difficult behaviour. A chapter on bullying and personal responsibility is included. This book is not intended for parents of children with any specific developmental problems. The aim in writing this book is to share thoughts, concepts and ideas gathered by the author from various teachers, writers, colleagues, friends and family. This is an important work because if parents, carers and all persons working with young people have a greater understanding of child development they are more likely to enhance the development of happy, sensitive and thoughtful individuals. This in turn has enormous implications for the future of our society. Dr Sandra Johnson, key author of a book for doctors called 'A Clinical Handbook on Child Development Paediatrics' has written this book specifically for parents. Dr Johnson is a developmental paediatrician who, having worked in the field of child development for over 26 years at various international teaching hospitals, draws from a breadth of clinical and teaching experience. She is a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School in the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health. She teaches child development to medical students, paediatric trainees, doctors and allied health professionals.
