Mollie and her friend Pam have just returned from a holiday in Alaska when Pam is murdered and there is an attempt to murder Mollie too - with a box of poisoned chocolates. No sooner do the police start to investigate the case than they learn another woman has disappeared. Enquiry leads to the information that the police have an unidentified body in Denali State Park which probably belongs to the missing woman. The story moves between Brighton, Alaska and Moscow where Mollie’s husband takes her for safety. There is very little violence except at the very end when the murderer is captured. The relationship between Mollie and her husband provides a certain amount of humour and romance.

Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
