Najpierw krótko przedstawiono oba zagadnienia, czyli zarządzanie typu lean i Przemysł 4.0, oraz nakreślono ich rozwój, aby już na wstępie uwypuklić pierwsze podobieństwa. Następnie omówiono podejścia charakterystyczne dla obu zagadnień i przeanalizowano, z jakich potrzeb się one wywodzą. W ramach porównania podjęto próbę wskazania z jednej strony podobieństw, a z drugiej - różnic.
