Wynter Skye is a little girl whose best friend, her doll Summer Rayne, is always by her side. However, she faces the challenge of attending school for the first time. Wynter Skye’s parents sat her down and explained to her the reasons why she must go to school. She is hesitant and worries about going to school. Initially, she is concerned about being away from her parents and thinks she will take her doll to school for emotional support. However, her father informs her that she must leave her best friend, Summer Rayne, at home. Wynter Skye questions herself if she will make friends and if the children and teacher will be mean to her. When she arrives at school, Wynter Skye begs her father not to leave her there. The teacher takes Wynter Skye by the hand to her classroom. In the classroom, Wynter Skye sees other children who are similar in size. She approaches the children. Will Wynter Skye make it through her first day at school without her best friend, make new friends, and adjust to being away from home? This short story teaches children how to cope with going to school for the first time.  Also included in the short story are bolded sight words, a glossary section, identified short and long A vowel sound words, and a discussion section to help children increase their vocabulary and reading comprehension.
