Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Zunehmend mehr Menschen nutzen das Internet, um Informationen zu Ursachen, Bedingungen oder Behandlungsmöglichkeiten von Schmerzen und Beschwerden zu erhalten. Zielstellung der vorliegenden Studie war es, wissenschaftlich fundierte Informationen in einer auch für Laien verständlichen Form im Internet zur Verfügung zu stellen und mittels eines Online-Fragebogens mit Echtzeit-Feedback eine Selbstbeurteilung der eigenen Schmerzen und Beschwerden zu ermöglichen. Die dabei erhobenen Daten sollten darüber hinaus Aussagen zur Auftretenshäufigkeit von Schmerzen und Beschwerden, zu Beeinträchtigungen und zu Zusammenhängen mit soziodemographischen und weiteren psychologischen Variablen in einer repräsentativen Stichprobe von Internet-Usern ermöglichen. In die Datenanalyse wurden 1.750 Personen einbezogen. Die Studie zeigt, dass neben Schmerzen auch andere körperliche Beschwerden (insbesondere Juckreiz und Krämpfe) von vielen Menschen als sehr beeinträchtigend erlebt werden. Die Online-Erhebung von Schmerzen und Beschwerden bietet eine gute Möglichkeit zur Rekrutierung vergleichsweise großer Untersuchungsstichproben, deren Repräsentativität für die Allgemeinbevölkerung jedoch fraglich ist. Die Integration der Online-Erhebung in ein Informations-Portal, erscheint als eine gute Möglichkeit, Diagnostik und Intervention stärker zu verknüpfen.
