1940 and in the skies over England, the Battle of Britain is raging. A Luftwaffe Dornier 17 bomber is shot down and crashes into the North Sea off the coast of Norfolk, a single parachute floating down. The bodies of three other crew are eventually recovered from the sea. To the present, and In Berlin a young brother and sister strike lucky on the lottery and decide to fulfil a long family promise: to bring the body of their great-grandfather back to Germany from his resting place in a quiet war grave in the corner of an ancient Norfolk church. Meanwhile, a gamekeeper is found shot dead at a charity clay pigeon shoot on the Royal Sandringham Estate. Our unlikely protagonist photographer Mark Elwin is on hand to record both events and to unravel the mysteries they both throw up.
