In this text, which is now published, the author wanted to show the state of writing in one of the secondary schools in Lubango - Huila, Angola, in order to get a concrete idea of what is happening at this level. The cases of capitalization, addition and homophone spellings were the ones that most caught the author’s attention. In this way, the difficulties presented by the students were confirmed and should be addressed through the remedial proposals presented. These difficulties found in the students’ texts should serve as a basis for planning the Portuguese language subject in elementary school in order to provide the student with the skills to improve written communication in the classroom.
