Metoda SMART (Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Treatment) to nowa, minimalnie inwazyjna technika leczenia stałych zębów tylnych dotkniętych MIH. MIH charakteryzuje się jakościowymi wadami szkliwa, które zwiększają podatność na nadwrażliwość, rozpad szkliwa po wyrżnięciu oraz próchnicę. Porowata i krucha szkliwo związane z MIH często ogranicza trwałość konwencjonalnych zabiegów odbudowujących. Metoda SMART łączy właściwości hamujące rozwój próchnicy i przeciwbakteryjne fluorku diaminosrebra (SDF) z zaletami uszczelniającymi i odbudowującymi cementu szklano-jonomerowego (GIC). Zastosowanie SDF pomaga powstrzymać zmiany próchnicowe, ogranicza aktywność bakterii i zwiększa twardość zębiny, natomiast późniejsze nałożenie GIC odbudowuje strukturę zęba, zapewnia uwalnianie fluoru i poprawia funkcjonalność. Badania wykazały, że metoda SMART skutecznie zmniejsza nadwrażliwość zębiny, powstrzymuje postęp próchnicy i poprawia komfort pacjenta w przypadku zębów dotkniętych MIH.
