Operatorzy urządzeń rentgenowskich do kontroli bagażu wykonują bardzo odpowiedzialną pracę w trudnych warunkach. Ich środowisko pracy jest hałaśliwe i w dużym stopniu rozprasza uwagę z kilku powodów. W ramach niniejszego eksperymentu zbadano, jak zmienia się skuteczność wykrywania obiektów przez 18 doświadczonych operatorów w sytuacji, gdy muszą oni słuchać rozmowy, aktywnie w niej uczestniczyć oraz są narażeni na hałas silników odrzutowych. Chociaż obserwatorzy zgłaszali, że hałas i aktywna rozmowa były dla nich stresujące i wyczerpujące, nie stwierdzono żadnych istotnych wyników potwierdzających tę subiektywną ocenę.
