The child is shown different flower pictures, which are paintings by the author, and asked if they would like to be the various flowers presented to them. They should be encouraged by the reader to share their feelings about what they think they would experience if they were a flower, where they would live, etc. They learn of different animals, birds, butterflies that might visit them, then finally are encouraged to appreciate the actual person they are.
