Looking at the experiences of women in early modern Portugal in the context of crime and forgiveness, this study uses judicial and quasi-judicial records to examine the implications of crime in women’s lives, whether as victims or culprits. Abreu-Ferreira unearths material from archival records not available in English to offer a unique contribution to the history of crime and the history of women.
