If it were possible for us Americans to stand outside our imposed walls of ignorance we could see two very similar events, and explore our different reactions.Whereas America has for the last 2-3 years created havoc for the Iraqis, by killing them and destroying their towns, there is very little sentiment amongst us that we are evil people.Nature, with the blessing of God for you the believers, has destroyed New Orleans in a weeks time, Americans feel compassion and are giving much aid to the rescue of the survivors. How different are these two American tragedies? In one we kill and destroy and do not come to the aid of the sufferers. (The best aid being our getting out of there and not making any movies about our heroic deeds). In the other, when we suffer a fraction of the pains and losses that we routinely make others suffer, we unite and try to survive. But this is not just an American inability. Here how men treat women:Women are not allowed to publicly expose any part of their bodies in some countries.Women are stoned to death for adultery in some countries, while men are allowed to have multiple wives.Wives are burned alive in some countries, so that the husbands can marry again for better dowries.Women cannot have an abortion unless men legislate it.Women cannot preach in most religions throughout the world.Women cannot legislate war, yet must provide sons and daughters to fight and die in these wars.Women rarely become leaders of countries.Women do not make the same money as men even when doing the same work.Women do more work than men in most countries of the world.Women's genitals are mutilated in some countries to prevent their enjoying sexual intercourse. And this is the way it is with the most sophisticated mammal on earth. To think that we, the men, think of ourselves as the providers and defenders of the race.On the other end, what if women took half of the time they spend in adorning themselves and invested it in achieving equali

In the 1930s, Freud observed that 'when you meet a human being, the first distinction you make is ’male or female?’ and you are accustomed to make the distinction with unhesitating certainty.' As Freud suggests, society is divisible by gender. We are taken to be either 'male' or 'female.' This notion seems to be fixed within our culture and is often unquestioned. In this dynami...

Stripping has become a big business, with over 3.5 million people, primarily men, attendin...
