This volume explores how women effectively function simultaneously as carers, workers and good citizens and examines the different alliances and coping strategies formed in a variety of contexts, which enables them to concurrently embody a varied ranges of roles across the private and public divides. The book explores the methods by which women are able to bridge the societal gender divides and roles ascribed to them with those they have chosen for themselves whilst retaining a sense of their self and this is analyzed within the context of a moral economy of kin that both facilitates and constrains their lives but without causing ructions. Over time, women have developed different approaches in different contexts and the chapters in this volume consider the solutions that women from across the globe have formed.
