Das Buch untersucht die sozialen Proteste gegen die Neoliberalisierung der Wohnraumversorgung, die sich angesichts steigender Mieten und Wohnungspreise  in den letzten Jahren vielerorts  formiert haben. Am Beispiel von Frankfurt am Main und Tel Aviv-Jaffa untersucht Sebastian Schipper vergleichend, inwiefern solche Widerständigkeiten eine signifikante Abweichung von Prozessen der Vermarktlichung und Privatisierung anstoßen können. Gelingt es städtischen sozialen Bewegungen, darauf hinzuwirken, dass die Versorgung mit Wohnraum der Marktlogik entzogen und aus Kreisläufen der Kapitalverwertung herausgenommen wird? Zeichnen sich in den gesellschaftlichen Auseinandersetzungen Konturen eines entstehenden postneoliberalen Regimes der Dekommodifizierung des Wohnens ab? Im Sinne einer aktivistischen Stadtforschung wird herausgearbeitet, welche politischen Alternativen zur Realisierung bezahlbaren Wohnraums in den sozialen Kämpfen zum Vorschein kommen, und strategisch nach ihrer Durchsetzbarkeit gefragt.
