This radical interpretation of its subject is the first critical history of the Conservative Party ever published, filling a notable omission in British political literature. Throwing original light on nineteenth and twentieth century politics, the book offers telling observations on many famous figures including Robert Peel, Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Salisbury, Andrew Bonar Law, Stanley Baldwin, Neville Chamberlain, Harold Macmillan, Edward Heath, Margaret Thatcher, and David Cameron. The previous version of the book received approving comments from Neil Kinnock, Ken Livingstone, Larry Whitty, and Ted Honderich.
