Do you have a namesake? Someone for whom you were named? I was named David, after the Biblical David. David, the shepherd boy, the sweet-singer of Israel, writer of Psalms, and eventually the greatest King of Israel. My parents named me David with the hope and prayer that I would take on at least some of the positive characteristics of David. They wanted me to emulate the '...apple of [God’s] eye'. They named me, and prayed for me, to be a man '...after God’s own heart'. I am not claiming to have always measured up. But to live up to my name is my goal. The Biblical names of God describe who God is, what He is like, His characteristics, His very nature, even how we might become more like Him. As we study the God of provision, peace, protection, and righteousness we learn how to live in His righteousness, savor the security of His protection, experience His peace, and receive His provision. Likewise, understanding the Light of the World equips us to live in the Light. And, when we acknowledge and have knowledge of the Way, Truth, and Life we begin to walk in the way, know the truth, and experience His life in our lives every day.Do you have a namesake? Yes, you do. God is our Father. He is our heritage. As you study who He is you will begin to understand who you are and how that you must become more like your Heavenly Father.
