While defending his friend after being violently assaulted by Liam Flannigan, Sean confronted Liam. Sean had no intention of the confrontation becoming violent. However, Liam attacked Sean, and he was forced to defend himself. During the altercation, Sean punched Liam in the face and knocked him out. Liam fell backward and his head hit the floor. But, the school and Liam’s family pressed charges; Sean was arrested. He was taken into custody. Sean was being charged with First Degree Assault and possibly, Second Degree Murder. Sean was taken to jail and spent several months in a juvenile detention facility. Sean, a star athlete, signed to play professional baseball, was now incarcerated in a secure lockdown facility surrounded by the most violent juveniles in Maryland. Now, he has to survive in a world where he is told when to eat, what to eat, when to move, where to move, and surrounded by people he wouldn’t interact with. However, sometimes the most unexpected places turn out to be an unexpected blessing. He learned to embrace his time and the relationships he formed. Rather than dwell on what he lost, left behind, or what rights he has been stripped of; the experience made him stronger.
