The Modern Inheritances: Rethinking Humanity, Literature, and Navigating the Contemporary Humanistic Crisis由人性与文学之关系探微现代性遗产，今人应对人文危机的可能This volume presents the content of five lectures delivered by Professor Leo Ou-fan Lee for the third 'Hu Shih Distinguished Humanities Lecture Series' at Peking University. In these talks, Professor Lee returns to a classic theme in modern Chinese and comparative literary studies-the relationship between Chinese and Western literature and culture-weaving together text and cultural history through his distinctive intellectual-historical approach.He begins by untangling the complex relationships between modernity, modernity, and modern literature (or modernism), outlining the historical and cultural background of modernist movements. Subsequently, through four focused topics-utopian imagination in late Qing literature, the 'left-wing' internationalism connecting Chinese and Western literary circles in the 1930s, the humanist legacy of Vico, Said, and Zhu Guangqian, and Taiwanese 'academic modernism'-he explores how Chinese modern literature received and processed the 'anxiety of reality' brought by Western modernism, and what legacy from the 20th century we can draw upon today to confront new crises.本书内容出自李欧梵教授受邀为北京大学第三届'胡适人文讲座'所做的五次讲演。李欧梵教授回归到中国现代文学和比较文学研究的一个传统题目--中西文学关系或者中西文化关系的研究，用自己的思想史方法把文本和文化史连在一起。首先尝试厘清现代、现代性和现代文学或者说现代主义三者之间错综复杂的关系，勾勒出现代主义的历史和文化背景的轮廓。进而通过四个专题--晚清文学中的乌托邦想象、1930年代中西文坛的'左翼'国际主义、维柯-萨义德-朱光潜的人文主义遗产，以及台湾的'学院现代主义'--来探讨中国现代文学如何接收和处理西方现代主义所带来的'现实的焦虑'，今天我们又能从20世纪的历史种继承怎样的遗产以应对新的危机。
