Martin Schultze geht mit seinem Buch der Frage nach, ob und in welchem Ausmaß Wählerheterogenität im deutschen Elektorat vorhanden ist. Wählerheterogenität wird dabei durch eine gruppenspezifische Erweiterung des Michigan-Modells analysiert. Anhand von Repräsentativdaten für Deutschland sowie mit Hilfe von Strukturgleichungsmodellen und multiplen Gruppenvergleichen zeigt er, dass ein beträchtliches Ausmaß an Heterogenität im Elektorat vorhanden ist und einfache Modelle der Wahlentscheidung diese nicht angemessen berücksichtigen.
