Die Welt von Wabi-Sabi Unter den Japanern gibt es eine weit verbreitete Geschichte über die frühen Jahre eines Teemeisters namens Sen No Rikyu. Als Sohn eines bescheidenen Lagerverwalters versuchte er, seinen Status zu verbessern, indem er den Weg des Tees beherrschte - eine alte japanische Tradition für die feierliche Zubereitung und das Servieren von Tee.Im Alter von 19 Jahren verließ er sein Zuhause in Osaka, um eine Audienz bei einem Meister (Takeno Joo) zu suchen. Der Meister stimmte zu, Rikyu als Schüler aufzunehmen, aber nur, wenn er seine Prüfung bestand, die seinen Garten „perfekt' machen sollte.Rikyu kümmerte sich um den Garten seines Meisters und harkte sorgfältig jede Stelle, bis kein einziges abgefallenes Blatt mehr auf dem Boden lag. Kurz nachdem er seinen Meister gerufen hatte, um seine Arbeit zu überprüfen, ging er auf einen Kirschbaum in der Mitte des Gartens zu und begann, ihn kräftig zu schütteln. Infolgedessen lagen Hunderte von Kirschblüten verstreut auf dem Boden. An diesem Punkt akzeptierte der Meister Rikyu als seinen Schüler und brachte ihm alles bei, was er wissen wollte.
