Był członkiem Zgromadzenia Konstytucyjnego w 1940 r., członkiem Izby Reprezentantów prowincji Oriente na Kubie w latach 1940-1944, radnym Rady Miejskiej Palma Soriano (1944-1946), burmistrzem gminy Palma Soriano (1946-1948) i gubernatorem prowincji Oriente od 1948 r. do swojej śmierci w 1951 roku. Pomimo tego, jego życie zostało w niewielkim stopniu zbadane, dlatego postawiliśmy sobie za cel wyeliminowanie luk, które istnieją w biografii dr Maceo Gonzáleza, rekonstrukcję jego pochodzenia, życia rodzinnego, społecznego i zawodowego, a także jego działalności społeczno-politycznej. Jest to wysiłek badawczy mający na celu odsłonięcie człowieka, który w 1948 roku pełnił funkcję gubernatora prowincji Oriente, którą sprawował aż do śmierci w 1951 roku.
