In passato, lo Stato del Rajasthan era conosciuto come Rajputana ed è stato istituito il 30 marzo 1949. Copre un’area di 3.42.239 km² e occupa il 10,74% del territorio indiano. È anche lo Stato più grande dell’India. Lo Stato del Rajasthan si trova all’interno di un’area compresa tra 23o03’-30o12’N e 69o29’-78o17’E. È delimitato a ovest e a nord-ovest dal Pakistan, a nord e a nord-est dall’Haryana e dall’Uttar Pradesh e a sud-sud-est e sud-ovest rispettivamente dal Madhya Pradesh e dagli Stati del Gujarat. Lo Stato è coperto dal deserto del Thar in direzione nord-ovest e copre il 32% dell’area totale. Le catene collinari degli Aravalli si estendono da Delhi a nord-est fino alle pianure del Gujarat settentrionale a sud-ovest, e fisiograficamente dividono lo Stato in due parti disomogenee. L’area a est delle colline è coperta dalle pianure orientali e dall’altopiano del Vindhyan. Nella presente visita geologica, abbiamo esplorato diversi luoghi geologicamente affascinanti, tra cui il complesso di rame di Khetri, HCL, Khertinagar, dove abbiamo visitato la miniera sotterranea e studiato le operazioni della miniera, i corpi minerari di rame e la geologia di quest’area che rientra nel supergruppo di Delhi.
