Wie sichern deutsche Wirtschaftsverbände ihren Organisationserhalt? In dieser Studie werden Antworten in der Untersuchung verbandlicher Organisationsidentitäten gesucht. Es wird damit ein neues Konzept in die Forschung zu organisierten Wirtschaftsinteressen eingebracht, das auf organisationale Sinngebung fokussiert. Hierzu werden Einsichten von Interessengruppen- und Organisationsforschung verbunden. Ausgehend von 24 Fallstudien zu Verbänden der Elektro-, Maschinenbau-, metallverarbeitenden sowie Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie werden vier Typen verbandlicher Identitäten bestimmt: Advokaten, Dienstleister, Traditionalisten und Wegbereiter. Dabei werden komplexe Prozesse verbandlichen Organisationserhalts herausgearbeitet.Die Studie liefert nicht nur einen innovativen konzeptionellen wie empirischen Beitrag zur Interessengruppenforschung, und damit für policy-analytische Fragestellungen. Sie bietet auch Anknüpfungspunkte für übergeordnete politikwissenschaftliche Debatten über Rolle und Wirken der Verbände in Demokratie und politischer Ökonomie.
