Ziel der Studie war es, die Rolle von Vitamin D auf den Redoxhaushalt und die Insulinresistenz bei trächtigen Mutterschafen zu untersuchen und seine Fähigkeit zur Vorhersage einer subklinischen Schwangerschaftstoxämie (SPT) zu ermitteln. 15 gesunde trächtige Mutterschafe wurden vier Wochen vor dem Ablammen anhand ihres Vitamin-D-Gehalts (25-Hydroxyvitamin D (25VitD)) in zwei Gruppen eingeteilt. Mutterschafe mit ausreichendem 25VitD (SVD) und Mutterschafe mit unzureichendem 25VitD (ISVD). Die Studie kam zu dem Schluss, dass 25VitD einen tiefgreifenden Einfluss auf das Redox-Gleichgewicht und den Energiehaushalt hat und eine gute Vorhersagekraft für SPT bei trächtigen Schafen besitzt.
