Este libro reflexiona sobre los vínculos establecidos entre diferentes espacios que componían la Monarquía Hispánica durante la Edad Moderna. Para ello se estudiaron los proyectos, los conflictos y las negociaciones que caracterizaron el ejercicio de poder en los territorios ibéricos y ultramarinos. De ahí que los capítulos aquí reunidos analicen la política y los efectos del intercambio y la movilidad en múltiples escalas, para repensar cómo tales vínculos repercutieron en ciertos cambios desplegados en el escenario del expansionismo ibérico. Además, no solo se intenta estudiar los procesos de integración a la Corona de Castilla, sino cómo diversos agentes en múltiples espacios (en el Nuevo Reino de Granada, Popayán, la Guayana o el Caribe) construyeron la monarquía católica, mediante procesos que implicaron la violencia y la coerción, pero también la negociación y el diálogo. Así, este libro destaca por proponer nuevos análisis sobre la cultura política compartida entre América y España, intentando mantener la “conciencia de globalidad” y efectuando comparaciones entre los mundos urbanos y rurales.
