“Viaje a Muyin, ciudad de la niebla” es uno de los cuatro relatos recogidos en este volumen. Escrito a los 19 años de edad del autor, el título se ha conservado para dar nombre a una amplia colección de sus cuentos. La lectura de este relato, una de las obras más significativas de la literatura coreana contemporánea, deja ya en el lector la huella de un narrador profundamente interesado en la exploración de las conciencias en situaciones límite. El protagonista regresa por tres días a su pueblo natal para poner en orden sus ideas. Durante esta estancia se debatirá entre vivir una vida auténtica o aceptar un importante cargo que le ofrece su suegro. Como la niebla de la ciudad, su conciencia se debatirá, húmeda y confusa, ante el rumbo que debe dar a su existencia. En “Seúl, invierno de 1964” el relato fluye en el vano intento de comunicación entre tres desconocidos en la noche capitalina: tres soledades que fracasan entre el sinsentido y la pérdida de significado de sus vidas. “El forzudo” es también la patética historia de un vacío existencial. Y en “Andanzas nocturnas” se avanza en el examen de la conciencia de una mujer, frustrada y ansiosa por dar un nuevo rumbo a su existencia, encaminada, no obstante, a la frustración y el desaliento.
