Bei der endodontischen Behandlung geht ein erheblicher Teil der Zahnsubstanz verloren. Die Langlebigkeit endodontisch behandelter Zähne hängt direkt von der Qualität und Quantität der verbleibenden Zahnsubstanz ab. Ein endodontischer Stift ist häufig erforderlich, um die aufgebaute Restauration in der radikulären Zahnstruktur zu halten, auf die anschließend eine Krone gesetzt werden kann. Das Einsetzen von Stiften gewährleistet auch den Verlust von Dentin an den Kanalwänden. Kliniker verwenden verschiedene faserverstärkte Kompositstifte, um den Verlust von Dentin aus dem Kanal zu minimieren. Ziel dieser Studie war es, die durchschnittliche Restdentinstärke (RDT) von Wurzelkanälen zu vergleichen, die mit Easy-Post- und Rely-X-Faserstiftbohrsystemen in extrahierten menschlichen Zähnen aufbereitet wurden.
