Neben verschiedenen sektoralen und verbandsbezogenen Analysen zu Gewerkschaften, Kirchen, kommunalen Spitzenverbänden, NGOs und neuen sozialen Bewegungen wird die Verbändeforschung selbst einer Analyse unterzogen, die Funktion und Bedeutung der Interessengruppen für das 'Modell Deutschland' betrachtet und die Bedeutung der zunehmenden Internationalisierung und Europäisierung der Interessenvermittlung für die Demokratie untersucht. Die Beiträge werden eingerahmt durch eine Gesamtbetrachtung der Bedeutung der Interessengruppen für die Demokratie in Deutschland seit 1945.
