الدليل التشخيصي والإحصائي للاضطرابات العقلية، المعروف اختصاراً بـ DSM-5، هو مرجع معياري تصدره الجمعية الأمريكية للطب النفسي (APA) يُستخدم عالميًا لتصنيف وتشخيص الاضطرابات النفسية والعقلية. ظهرت هذه الطبعة في مايو 2013، وتضم تحديثات لاحقة مثل DSM-5-TR التي صدرت في 2022 لإدخال تغييرات نصية وتوضيحات ومعايير تشخيصية جديدة.الغرض من DSM-5 هو تقديم لغة مشتركة دقيقة للأخصائيين في الصحة النفسية (أطباء نفسانيون، أطباء طب نفسي، علماء النفس، أخصائيين اجتماعيين وغيرهم)، بحيث يكون التشخيص والتصنيف موحدًا، مما يسهم في تحسين التشخيص، والعلاج، والبحث العلمي، والتواصل بين المهنيين. إنه لا يقدّم علاجًا لكن يحدد المعايير التي يجب أن يستوفيها الشخص ليتم تشخيصه باضطراب معين.الكتاب مقسّم إلى عدة أقسام رئيسية:القسم الأول: أساسيات DSM-5 - يشرح كيفية استعمال الدليل، التحذيرات، والأمور القانونية والطبية التي يجب الانتباه لها عند التشخيص، خاصة في حالات قانونية أو طبّيةالقسم الثاني: المعايير التشخيصية والتصنيفات - أكبر قسم، يحتوي على فصول لكل فئة من الاضطرابات العقلية مثل اضطرابات النمو العصبي، الفصام، الاضطرابات المزاجية، اضطرابات القلق، اضطرابات الأكل، اضطرابات النوم، اضطرابات الشخصية، وغيرها. يتضمن لكل اضطراب تعريفًا، معايير تشخيصية، طرق استبعاد، وتحديد شدة المرض أو مواصفاته المصاحبة.القسم الثالث: المقاييس والنماذج الناشئة - يتضمّن أدوات تشخيصية أو تقييمية، نماذج بديلة لبعض الاضطرابات، مسألة التفاعل الثقافي، ودراسة اضطرابات تحتاج مزيدًا من البحث قبل أن تُدرج رسميًا.
