Cooper ليس مرآةً حرفيّة ودقيقة للشاعر والناقد اللبناني عقل العويط. فالكلب الذي تبنّاه العويط برغبةٍ من ابنه أنسي، يصبح ذريعةً لغوض الكاتب عميقاً داخل ذاته، وللتعرف إلى جوانب جديدة منها لم يكن يدري بوجودها، في نصّ سرديّ طويل بعنوان السيّد Cooper وتابعُهُ. ومن هنا تحديداً يأتي العنوان. الحيوان الأليف هو من يعلّم صاحبه وليس العكس دائمًا. نقرأ عن صداقتهما التي تبلغ بضعة أعوام وتبقيهما ملتصقين معاً على الدوام. يتتبع الكتاب هذه العلاقة الحميمية وتبعاتها الداخليّة على الكائنين، إلا أن حضور كوبر يدفع الكاتب للنظر إلى حياته بشكل مختلف، أكثر شفافيّة ربّما خصوصاً خلال هذه الفترة العصيبة من تاريخ لبنان الحديث، بأزمته الاقتصاديّة وانفجار المرفأ، تضاف إليها ظروف الكاتب الشخصيّة... إنه قراءة ذاتيّة لحياة الكاتب في حضرة كوبر وعينيه، ولنظرته الفلسفية إلى العالم والوجود بلغةٍ شاعريّة متدفّقة. Cooper is not an exact or accurate copy of the Lebanese poet and critic Akl Al Awit. In fact, the dog that Al Awit adopted because of his son, Ounsi, became an excuse for the author to dive deep inside himself and discover new sides of him he didn’t know existed, in a lengthy narrative entitled 'Mr. Cooper and His Companion' (Assayed Cooper Wa Tabiouhou). That is precisely where the title came from. Pets are the ones that teach their owners, it’s not always the other way around. We read about this friendship that only lasts a couple of years but keeps both sides always close together. The book follows this intimate relationship and its inner repercussions on the two beings, but Cooper’s presence pushes the author to look at his life from a different perspective, perhaps a more transparent one, especially during this difficult period of modern Lebanese history with the economic crisis and the explosion of the port, to which are added the author’s personal circumstances... It’s a subjective reading of the author’s life in the presence of Cooper and through his eyes, a subjective reading of his philosophical outlook on the world and existence, written in a gracefully poetic flow'Here I am, reviewing what I wrote. Forgive me, I’m no novelist or autobiographer. I want you to be certain that the text you hold between your hands was written in a particular effort to make the narrative as transparent as the glass of your mirrors, thus incarnating your personality, and secluding itself with your daily life and its different realms, so as to recount the story of its potentials, revelations, possibilities, and realities, as if you were the one narrating it.'
