The need for strategic airlift continues to play a major part in the Global War on Terrorism. The use of strategic airlift, especially during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, was accomplished primarily by the C-17 due to the distance and threat environment. The recent Mobility Capabilities Study determined that the need for additional C-17s beyond 180 was not economically feasible in this time of tight budgets and the overall recapitalization of other Air Force aircraft. With the 180th C-17 scheduled to enter the fleet in FY08, a hard look must be given to utilizing this high demand asset in the most efficient manner possible. This increased utilization must include those C-17s assigned to AETC to conduct initial and upgrade training at Altus AFB.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
