Nanocząstki magnetytu (Fe3O4) zostały pomyślnie zsyntetyzowane metodą zol-żel. Zsyntetyzowane nanocząstki magnetytu scharakteryzowano za pomocą TEM, EDAX, SEM, VSM i innych technik. Nanocząsteczki magnetytu zsyntetyzowane metodą zol-żel wykazały bardzo dobre zastosowanie w usuwaniu sześciowartościowego chromu ze ścieków, mają duży stosunek powierzchni do objętości i wysoką zdolność absorpcji Cr(VI) w zasadowym pH. Ponieważ nanocząsteczki superparamagnetytu (Fe3O4) mają właściwości magnetyczne, można je łatwo usunąć ze ścieków za pomocą prostego pola magnetycznego.
