My great-grandfather Sven W. Swenson was born in 1886 in Sweden. He met and married my great-grandmother Agnèta. They soon left Sweden and made Wisconsin their home, and in 1913, they had my grandfather Lloyd. Sven always had a passion for art and the outdoors. He loved being outside, capturing God's gifts on film. Sven taught my grandfather how to hunt and fish. The Great Depression came along, and money was sparse, so hunting and fishing was food on the table. Sven often went out with his son to capture his life in time. While time stood still with the photos, his mind did not. Sven made it his life's mission to capture nature's glory in the purest form. Sven really wanted to publish his photos and poems, but due to the economy, he was unable to do so. I am the great-granddaughter of Sven and have been blessed to find a legacy that had been captured so long ago. All of this has been tucked away amongst passages of time and life of what was. Now everyone can enjoy the raw and emotional images and photos and see the beauty through his eyes of what the Lord has provided. Sven passed in 1938, Agnèta passed in 1970, and my grandfather Lloyd passed in 1992. Lloyd is on the cover of this book, who's legacy will continue. Thank you, Sven, and all of my family members who have passed, for allowing me to help accomplish a passionate dream, and letting this come alive with the Holy Spirit.- Arlys Swenson, great-granddaughter of Sven Swenson 3

    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A
    Maureen O'Shaughnessy
In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides. Set in contemporary Sydney, among a fictional underworld family, The Truth abou...
