Unshaken: The Road of Resolve is the extraordinary true story of Dave Kissoondoyal - a man shaped by poverty, perseverance, betrayal, and an unshakable commitment to dignity.Born in the quiet village of Mare D’Albert, Dave’s early life was marked by hardship and humility. His mother’s calloused hands tilled the earth before dawn, instilling in him a respect for silent sacrifice. From those roots, Dave rose - not by privilege, but through service, dedication, and a steadfast belief that loyalty and merit would ultimately be recognized. For over two decades, Dave served with unwavering commitment in one of Mauritius’ most prominent political movements. He gave everything: his time, his resources, his voice - and often his silence, believing that sacrifice and patience would one day be rewarded. His home became a hub of political work, his hall a gathering place for militants and strategy meetings, his family woven into the fabric of his public life. But what happens when silence is mistaken for weakness? When loyalty is met not with gratitude but with calculated exclusion? When the very movement he helped build chooses to erase him quietly, without explanation or apology? The betrayal came in stages: denied candidacy, erased from party media, humiliated before his family and comrades. And finally, abandoned in silence - the silence that speaks volumes.Dave’s resignation from politics in August 2024 was not an act of anger. It was an act of self-respect, a declaration that dignity can no longer be negotiated. But his journey did not end there. In June 2025, as the new government proposed raising the Basic Retirement Pension age from 60 to 65 - a policy that would directly harm the nation’s elders - Dave could no longer stand by. From a hotel room in Prague, he posted a raw, heartfelt Bhojpuri video that resonated across the country, declaring: 'Andher Nagri, Chaupat Raja!'His message ignited public outrage, not because it was loud, but because it was true.On his return to Mauritius, Dave founded the STOP movement - San Tous Ou Pension - with the motto 'San Tous Ou Dignite' (Without Your Dignity, You Have Nothing). STOP was not a political party, but a cry for fairness, a citizen’s movement rooted in justice and a refusal to let austerity punish the most vulnerable. When rallies and speeches proved insufficient, Dave made a deeply personal decision: he began a hunger strike - quietly, at home, on the verandah of the very hall where he had once organized party campaigns - to stand for dignity and justice, even if no one else would. For 11 harrowing days, Dave endured hunger as his body weakened but his resolve never wavered. His blood sugar level fell dangerously to 2.8 mmol/L and his blood pressure dropped to 8/5, pushing him to the brink of death. Yet he continued, driven by conscience and a profound sense of duty. This is not a memoir of political gossip or self-promotion.Unshaken: The Road of Resolve is a book about what it means to endure - to walk through betrayal, humiliation, poverty, and exclusion, and yet remain anchored in values that refuse to bend.It is a story for every reader who has worked in silence, served with integrity, and believed that dignity must come before politics. In these pages, Dave Kissoondoyal invites readers to walk alongside him: through the betrayals that broke his heart, the moments of quiet solidarity that kept him going, and the unshaken resolve that ultimately led him to rise, stand, and act.At a time when politics too often favors spectacle over sincerity, Unshaken: The Road of Resolve is a powerful reminder that quiet resilience matters. That leadership is service. That dignity is non-negotiable. And that when the system forgets its people, it falls to those very people - ordinary citizens with extraordinary courage - to restore justice.
