Unless God Builds It

Is the Modern Church Working?Despite our massive expenditure of time, effort, and money, the 'output' of the modern church rarely matches the 'input'. We see burnout, isolation, and spiritual infancy where there should be unity, life, and radical transformation. In Unless God Builds It, practitioner Jacob Hotchkiss argues that our default modes of operation aren’t just flawed-they are often counterproductive. This isn’t a book about better programs; it’s a proposal to radically reimagine how we relate to God and one another.Through a blend of biblical exegesis and real-world testimony, this book explores:Spirit-Led Order: A biblical framework for submission and church discipline that keeps the community pure without resorting to institutional control.Unavoidable Discipleship: Creating a culture where relational intimacy is baked into the model, not offered as an option.A New Pattern for Gathering: How 'open participation' allows Christ to be the functional Head of the meeting.Organic Leadership: Moving away from 'office-based' authority toward character-driven shepherding. The Gospel of Union: How a proper understanding of our present union with Christ is the only foundation for true sanctification.Whether you meet in a cathedral or a living room, these core design features apply to every church in the world, and if applied, they will reshape your experience of the Church forever.
