Este estudio presenta un análisis del desarrollo cognitivo y procesos de escritura en estudiantes universitarios. El marco teórico es la articulación de tres componentes: la teoría psicogenética de Piaget, la escritura como sistema de representación según Emilia Ferreiro, y la alfabetización académica como conjunto de exigencias especializadas en la educación superior. Para ser consistentes con el acercamiento psicogénetico se aplica la entrevista clínica. Con ella se indaga sobre las motivaciones, las acciones y los procesos de los sujetos ante su propia escritura. Una réplica modesta de los hallazgos de Ferreiro en sujetos prealfabetizados es el principal desafío epistemológico al intentar descubrir procesos constructivos en la escritura de sujetos universitarios, más allá de las miradas convencionales.
