A produção de gás natural contém compostos de hidrocarbonetos de baixo peso molecular, incluindo metano (CH4), etano (C2H6), propano (C3H8) e butano (C4H10). Embora esses hidrocarbonetos existam em estado líquido sob pressões subterrâneas, eles se tornam gasosos à pressão atmosférica normal, sendo chamados de líquidos de gás natural (LGN). Na fábrica, os contaminantes são removidos e os hidrocarbonetos NGL são recuperados para outros usos comerciais. Por razões económicas, algumas fábricas podem ser projetadas para produzir um produto intermediário que normalmente contém mais de 90% de metano puro e quantidades menores de CO2 e C2H6. Este produto pode ser posteriormente processado em fábricas a jusante ou usado como matéria-prima para a fabricação de produtos químicos. A ONGC visa a implementação da ACRU (Unidade de Recuperação Adicional de Condensado) para remover esses hidrocarbonetos do fluxo gasoso proveniente da Compressão de Gás Residual II (OGC-II) para torná-lo mais puro e, além disso, recuperar o petróleo bruto caro presente nele. O condensado (petróleo bruto) é um recurso valioso e mesmo a recuperação de pequenas quantidades é frequentemente economicamente justificável. Vale a pena recuperar a descarga do fluxo de gás.
