L’Alliance franco-russe (1892-1918) s’est nouée dans une atmosphère d’amitié profonde dont les promoteurs furent le vicomte M. de Vogué, les généraux N. N. Obroutchev et R. Le Mouton de Boisdeffre. La finalité de cette alliance était de coordonner la stratégie des armées alliées, anglaises, françaises et russes, sur les fronts de l’Ouest et de l’Est, afin d’affaiblir les armées de la Triplice (Allemagne, Autriche-Hongrie, Italie) ; coordination qui joua un rôle décisif lors des célèbres batailles de la Marne (5-12 septembre 1914) et de Verdun (février-décembre 1916). Cette alliance amena en France un corps expéditionnaire russe qui s’illustra lors de la bataille du Fort de la Pompelle (juillet 1916-mars 1917). Reims fut la seule ville de France directement défendue par le corps expéditionnaire russe, corps qui se révolta dans le camp de Mourmelon sous l’influence des idées de la Révolution russe d’Octobre 1917.Cette guerre développa aussi une exceptionnelle guerre de propagande comme l’illustre l’important corpus des cartes postales allemandes, russes et françaises analysé.Enfin, cette guerre généra la Révolution russe puis la paix de Brest-Litovsk (3 mars 1918) ce qui explique les débats historiographiques et la difficulté de leurs traductions dans les manuels scolaires.Tous les aspects évoqués ci-dessus constituent la trame des articles présentés qui composent un ouvrage novateur, accessible et scientifique dont chacun pourra nourrir ses connaissances.
