In my experiences of being mentally ill over the last thirty-six years, I have found that the perspective of mental health ''clients'' has not been respected. I believe we qualify as a minority group, even while it remains socially acceptable to dislike us, discriminate against us, and exclude us. This book that I've written rightly criticizes maltreatment. It points out practices of mental health practitioners that could be improved upon. At the same time, it acknowledges the existence of mental illness, and the need for treatment. This book focuses on those with schizophrenia. It offers commiseration, and it suggests that we've been underestimated, which is a harmful practice. It outlines the needs of people with mental illness, especially schizophrenia, such as a decent housing situation, caring and respectful treatment of our conditions, and having a purpose in life.
