This research presents compelling evidence that Mary Magdalene was the ’Beloved Disciple’ whose identity is revealed at the foot of the cross.For centuries, the naming of the 4th Gospel as ’The Gospel According to John’ has fundamentally misled readers. This work contends that early Church Fathers, seeking a line of apostolic succession tied to figures like Peter and Paul, deliberately assigned the Gospels to men accepted by the orthodox Church. It highlights the difference between human decision and divine selection for a Beloved Disciple, citing evidence that Mary Magdalene was present at the cross, while John the Son of Zebedee, who was rebuked for seeking a place of honour and rejecting the witness of the women, fled from the scene along with the other male disciples. And finally, it demonstrates how Koine Greek defaults to masculine when written from the perspective of a ’person’ or ’Beloved Disciple’ in general. Thus, the pronouns him/he/his connected to the Beloved Disciple do not necessarily indicate that the text was written by a man.
