Under Handicap is a novel written by Jackson Gregory and originally published in 1914. The story is set in the Old West and centers around the character of Tom Benton, a man who has been dealt a difficult hand in life. Despite these challenges, Tom is determined to make a life for himself and prove that he is just as capable as anyone else. The novel follows Tom as he sets out to make a name for himself in the world of horse racing. He becomes a jockey and trains his own horse, hoping to win races and earn enough money to support himself. Along the way, he faces many obstacles, including prejudice from those who believe that he is not capable of succeeding due to his disability.Despite these challenges, Tom perseveres and eventually becomes a successful jockey, winning races and earning the respect of his peers. Along the way, he also falls in love with a woman named Ruth, who supports him in his endeavors and helps him to overcome the obstacles he faces.Under Handicap is a story of perseverance, determination, and the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity.
