Subiectul eticii a fost dezbătut de filosofii antici și continuă să fie dezbătut și astăzi deoarece, deși ignorat de mulți, acesta pătrunde în miezul interacțiunilor noastre și este prezent în alegerile pe care le facem și în modul în care aceste alegeri ne afectează. Am putea spune chiar că etica este omologul grecesc al studiului conceptului indian de dharma, sau înțelegerea relației dintre cauze, conștiință și efectele lor. Studiul eticii nu este doar un studiu al moralității, ci un progres important către propria noastră conștiință. Cu cât știm mai multe despre ceea ce ne face morali sau imorali, cu atât alegerile noastre vor fi mai bune și cu atât vom fi mai aproape de o viață plină de sens și bucurie. Nu există iluminare fără conștiință și nu există conștiință superioară fără o înțelegere a eticii, care trebuie să urmeze un progres în dezvoltarea rațiunii. Prin urmare, studiul eticii face parte din calea de a deveni o persoană mai capabilă în diferitele domenii ale vieții.
