Los Andes vibran anualmente con masivas fiestas populares que celebran la imagen de María. Imagen que es algo más que su pura materialidad. ¿Qué es ese algo más que los devotos reconocen en la imagen? ¿De qué modo se relacionan con ellas? ¿Cómo llega la imagen a ser sagrada? Este ensayo es un recorrido etnográfico por multitudinarias celebraciones: la fiesta de Guadalupe de Ayquina (Chile) y de la Virgen del Valle de Catamarca (Argentina). Explorando la devoción popular como actividad eminentemente práctica, el autor registra, a través del texto y la fotografía, diversas formas de contacto, movimiento e intercambio festivo. Una relacionalidad donde el cuerpo y los sentidos se enredan con las imágenes en un juego constante de sacralización y secularización. El texto debate el sesgo conceptual con que distintas teorías han intentado comprender la religiosidad popular y el proceso de secularización cultural, proponiendo una interpretación que revela otras formas de constituir lo sagrado desde los cuerpos y las prácticas festivas. Una imagen y algo más es un ensayo donde la investigación empírica estimula la comprensión filosófica, invitando a una reflexión sugerente y profunda sobre la vida social y el estatuto ontológico de las imágenes en los Andes. 10
