Un hiver à Majorque (1842) raconte le séjour de George Sand et de son compagnon, le compositeur Frédéric Chopin, sur l’île de Majorque pendant l’hiver 1838. Cherchant à échapper à leurs problèmes personnels et à trouver un refuge pour la santé de Chopin, ils s’installent tous deux à la Chartreuse de Valldemosa. À travers le regard de Sand, le récit offre une immersion dans la vie locale de Majorque, ses coutumes, ses habitants et un paysage qui, malgré sa beauté, s’avère également difficile en raison du climat et des difficultés de l’île. Tout au long de l’ouvrage, Sand réfléchit à sa relation avec Chopin, à son amour, à la fragilité de la vie et aux effets de l’isolement sur la création artistique. Le livre devient ainsi un récit de voyage qui explore non seulement l’île, mais aussi le combat intérieur de ses protagonistes.
