Die Bewertung von Oberflächengewässern hinsichtlich ihres Schwermetallgehalts ist sowohl aus ökologischer als auch aus sozialer Sicht ein Thema von großem Interesse. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, Wasserproben aus dem Fluss Grajaú im Bundesstaat Maranhão hinsichtlich ihres Kupfergehalts zu analysieren, um mögliche Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt zu bewerten. Zu diesem Zweck wurden sechs Wasserproben aus dem Fluss Grajaú an verschiedenen Entnahmestellen entnommen und die Metallkonzentration mittels Atomabsorptionsspektrometrie mit Graphitofen bestimmt. Die Ergebnisse lagen zwischen 0,01 und 0,08 mg L-1 Kupfer in diesen Proben. Die Kupferkonzentrationen in den Wasserproben überschritten die Höchstgrenzen für Flusswasser der Klasse 3 gemäß der Resolution 357/2005 des Nationalen Umweltrats (CONAMA). Die höchsten Konzentrationen wurden in Gebieten mit ungeordneter Bebauung und häuslichen Abwässern gemessen.
