Durante várias décadas, os conceitos de redução da pobreza e de desenvolvimento apoiados pela ajuda externa, bem como as políticas e os programas desenvolvidos pelas agências internacionais de desenvolvimento e pelos peritos implementados desde a década de 1950, produziram resultados limitados a curto prazo e por vezes contraditórios no Quénia. Em resposta a este problema, em 2000, a adoção dos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio (ODM) constituiu, em muitos aspectos, uma realização extraordinária, tendo obtido um apoio internacional sem precedentes. A redução da pobreza e o desenvolvimento sustentável são prioridades fundamentais para o governo queniano e para o projeto 'Kenya Vision 2030'. O objetivo deste estudo era aprender com as implementações da Aldeia do Milénio de Sauri nos programas agrícolas e não agrícolas, de educação e de saúde. Todos eles estão inter-relacionados e podem ajudar a desenvolver uma estratégia mais abrangente e prática para o projeto Kenya Vision 2030 para a redução da pobreza no Quénia. Além disso, contribuem para a reavaliação e melhoria, adequação e sustentabilidade do MVP, a nível nacional e no debate global sobre a definição dos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável.
