Esta monografia é o resultado de um estudo de dois anos que foi realizado na tentativa de preencher uma lacuna na literatura atual sobre pesquisa matrimonial, explorando a relação entre os papéis sexuais percebidos, os valores matrimoniais e a adaptação e satisfação matrimonial entre 215 indivíduos casados de diferentes culturas, que foram pesquisados e que viviam nos Estados Unidos da América na altura da pesquisa. A investigação explorou três questões de investigação diferentes: (1) A relação entre os papéis sexuais e as crenças matrimoniais; (2) A relação entre os papéis sexuais e a adaptação/satisfação matrimonial; e (3) Os efeitos combinados da relação entre os papéis sexuais e as crenças matrimoniais nos níveis de adaptação e satisfação matrimonial.
